SJRRP Interim Flows Update – Water Releases from Friant Dam Increasing March 1, 2010

On February 1, the San Joaquin River Restoration Program (SJRRP) resumed water releases, called Interim Flows, from Friant Dam, near Fresno, into the San Joaquin River.  Starting on March 1, releases from Friant Dam will increase to 500 cubic feet per second (cfs). Flows will increase again between March 16-18 to 800 cfs.  We anticipate substantially higher pulse flows around April and we will send you an updated 2010 schedule as soon as it becomes available, or you can check the website for updates.

Movement of the flows can be tracked on the Program’s website at http://www.restoresjr.net/activities/if/index.html.

U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's planned water releases into the San Joaquin River

Beginning October 1, 2009, the SJRRP began increasing water releases, called Interim Flows, from Friant Dam, near Fresno, into the San Joaquin River.  These periodic Interim Flows will vary based on the schedule for the water releases, and people who recreate in or along the San Joaquin River from Friant Dam to Gravelly Ford should be aware of the potential for periodic higher flows in late 2009 and throughout 2010.

Attached is an informational fact sheet regarding the water releases from Friant Dam to assist you with when to anticipate changes in river flows and where to obtain the most current information about river flows.  The attached Interim Flows Fact Sheet contains the current schedule for the releases through February 2010, a map of the SJRRP area, and some additional information or recreational areas.

For more information on the SJRRP, Interim Flows, and real-time San Joaquin River flow data, visit www.restoresjr.net.
